OVERNIGHT NEWBORN CARE · SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
You Sleep.
I’ve Got the Night.
I’m Sam — a certified postpartum doula and Newborn Care Specialist providing experienced overnight support for Southern California families who want more than someone simply awake with the baby.
I’m paying attention to feeding patterns, cues, sleep stretches, diapers, what settles your baby well, what changes from night to night, and anything worth bringing to your attention in the morning.
Feeds, bottles, burping, diapers, soothing, settling, safe sleep, pump-part resets — yes. But the real value is that someone experienced is watching the whole picture while you’re finally getting some sleep.
You wake up rested, informed, and with a clearer understanding of your baby than you had the night before.

What Experience Sees in the Dark
PATTERNS, NOT JUST TIMESTAMPS
A 2 a.m. wake is data. So is how baby took the bottle, where they got frustrated, how easily they settled, what happened after the feed, the diaper before it, and whether tonight looks different from yesterday.
I’m not just completing the next task. I’m building a picture of your baby in real time — so patterns become useful information instead of a pile of timestamps.
HANDOFFS WITH SUBSTANCE
By morning, you won’t just hear, “Baby did great!”
You’ll know what happened, what I noticed, what worked, what changed, and what I think is worth continuing to watch. If something would be useful to discuss with your pediatrician, lactation consultant, or another member of your care team, you’ll have clear notes to work from.
You got to sleep. You didn’t lose the night.
JUDGMENT YOU CAN SLEEP THROUGH
Newborns do plenty of strange, noisy, inconsistent things. Experience is knowing what needs an adjustment, what needs patience, what deserves a conversation, and what probably just needs to be left alone.
I stay firmly within my scope, but I bring years of hands-on newborn and infant experience into every decision I make overnight.
Sometimes excellent care looks like stepping in. Sometimes it’s knowing not to.
I’ll Teach You the Why Behind It.
Feeding Is a Skill.
IF YOU’RE EXCLUSIVELY BREASTFEEDING:
You do not have to choose between protecting your feeding goals and getting meaningful rest.
I can bring baby or pumps to you when it’s time, handle the diapering, burping, soothing, and settling afterward, and help keep the overnight rhythm as smooth as possible.
I’m also watching the feed itself — latch behavior, clicking, leaking, gulping, fatigue, frustration, and anything worth bringing to your IBCLC or pediatrician.
If you’re pumping, I can help you think through the practical pieces too, including pump setup, flange fit, and the little adjustments that can make pumping feel a lot less miserable.
You feed. I help make the rest of the night make sense.
IF YOU’RE BOTTLE OR COMBO FEEDING:
I practice paced bottle feeding and can teach you exactly how to do it, rather than just hand you a bottle and tell you to keep it horizontal.
We can work through positioning, pacing, hunger and fullness cues, nipple flow, when a nipple may be too fast or too slow, coughing or gulping, leaking, clicking, excessive air intake, and how to tell whether baby is actually feeding comfortably.
I’ll also help you understand bottles, nipple sizes, feeding patterns, safe formula handling, and the small details that can make feeding feel dramatically easier.
The goal is not for me to be the only person who knows how to feed your baby well. It’s for you to know exactly what you’re looking at too.

My responsibility is your baby for the entirety of my shift.
That doesn’t mean I’m standing over the bassinet staring at them for eight hours 😂 — newborns sleep, and a good overnight provider knows when to observe and when to let a sleeping baby sleep.
What matters is that you are off duty. I’m responsible for responding to wakes, feeds, diapers, soothing, safe sleep, and anything that changes during the night.
We’ll also be very clear before the first shift about expectations, where I’ll be, and how you want overnight care handled so you’re not lying upstairs wondering what’s happening.
-
This is the question I want you to take seriously.
You just met this baby. Handing them to someone you barely know and then being expected to go upstairs and sleep can feel completely unnatural — even when you desperately need the rest.
Trust doesn’t come from me saying, “Don’t worry, I’m great with babies.” It comes from experience, training, references, safe practices, good judgment, clear boundaries, communication, and what I do when something isn’t going perfectly.
I’ve also cared for children in families where trust was not theoretical. One mother I worked with had previously lost a child because of someone else’s negligence. With the children who came after, I became the only person outside the family she trusted to care for them.
I don’t share that lightly, and I don’t take what it means lightly either.
Ask me questions. Ask why I do something a certain way. Tell me what matters to you. Check the bassinet three times before you go to bed if you need to.
My job isn’t to make you feel silly for being protective. It’s to give you fewer and fewer reasons to feel like you have to be guarded.

If all you need is someone to stay awake, change diapers, and give bottles, there are less expensive ways to get that.
That isn’t what I’m offering.
You’re hiring someone experienced to take responsibility for the night while you recover. Someone who understands newborn feeding, cues, safe sleep, bottle flow, soothing, normal newborn behavior, patterns, and when something deserves your attention.
Someone who can leave you with useful notes instead of “Baby did great!” Someone who can teach you what she’s seeing instead of creating a household where only she knows how to settle the baby.
And you’re buying sleep, which drastically affects recovery, patience, decision-making, relationships, and how capable tomorrow feels.
The hours are overnight. The value carries into the rest of your day.
-
It shouldn’t be an either/or between getting support and protecting your feeding goals.
If you’re nursing, I can bring baby to you for feeds and take over everything around them — diapering, burping, soothing, settling, pump-part resets — so your wake-up is as short as it reasonably can be.
If you’re pumping or combination feeding, we can build the night around that plan too.
And because milk supply is individual and especially sensitive in the early weeks, I’m not going to tell you to casually skip feeds or pumping sessions just so I can promise you eight uninterrupted hours. If something needs clinical lactation guidance, that’s when I want your IBCLC involved.
The goal is more rest without quietly working against what you’re trying to establish.
